FIDDLER OF LEGANANNY Limited Fine Art Print By Dee McNally (1/75) (In Deirdre's own words)
Fiddler of Legananny
I loved the pictures this poem conjured up in my head.
The fiddler, a lone man , I think a quiet man, who communicated through his music.
When he played his demeanour changed. He became a charismatic figure. The tunes flowed through his fingers and into the night air with such a compelling charm that it was nigh on impossible not to swirl and sway and twirl and believe in the magic.
The wee folk, ah the wee folk. The pictures THEY conjured up.
Goblins, imps, pixies ,elves, fairies, and sprites spinning around in my mind. All vying for attention.
Which ought I choose to dance til dawn in the soft grass of the fairy fort?
Like the fiddler with his music, the Goblins, imps, pixies ,elves, fairies, and sprites flowed through my fingers as I sketched and painted until I had a plethora of mostly brightly coloured paintings laid out in front of me.
As I set out to capture the luminescence, the magic and of that night, I began to think of the line ‘white hand in white hand’ and the wee folk began to become real to me.
They started to take a form, they emerged. Dainty, exquisite and unworldly, they took their rightful place under the moonlight to as the fiddler bade the dance begin.
